It's such a simple project and a great way to spice up a tired maxi or midi skirt.br /div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"br //divemYou need:/embr /A thrifted skirt (I picked one with some subtle pleating but don't go with a fully pleated skirt as they are difficult to hem)br /A pair of scissorsbr /Needle and threadbr /An iron.br /br /emHow to:/embr /1.nbsp; Below is obviously the way the skirt looked before I took my scissors to it. Put your skirt on and mark where you want the front, and shortest, part of the skirt to finish.br /br /div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IhlIJ3zYg78/Tn7UFHblrYI/AAAAAAAAEfE/8Vw31PPbaDQ/s1600/apairasparediyfishtailskirt1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"img border="0" height="640px" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-IhlIJ3zYg78/Tn7UFHblrYI/AAAAAAAAEfE/8Vw31PPbaDQ/s640/apairasparediyfishtailskirt1.png" width="534px" //a/divbr /2. Take the skirt off and fold in half down the front middle of the skirt - so rather than the back and front lying against each other, it's the two sides that face each other - the way you might fold trousers before you put them on a coat hanger. Make sure the fold is directly in the middle of the front of the skirt.br /br /br /3. Lay the skirt on the floor and cut out the front of the skirt - you want a semi straight line for the first 30cm of so to create the mini part of the skirt, then tapering down to the back and bottom of the skirt.br /br /div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IghPiVN6w1Y/Tn7UytUtXgI/AAAAAAAAEfI/rUsUbIuOptI/s1600/apairasparediyfishtailskirt2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"img border="0" height="438px" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IghPiVN6w1Y/Tn7UytUtXgI/AAAAAAAAEfI/rUsUbIuOptI/s640/apairasparediyfishtailskirt2.png" width="640px" //a/divbr /4. Try the skirt on to see if the cut out is big enough. I did this a few times, cutting more away to suit what I wanted it to look like. Take this slowly as it's always better to cut less than to cut too much.br /br /5. Once you have a cut out that you like, fold over the edge of the skirt and iron. Fold it twice so the rough edge is covered if you need to - my skirt was a fabric that didn't fray so I skipped that step.br /br /div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tzZShDXtYM8/Tn7VPqTGNgI/AAAAAAAAEfM/wwOL9kJ54Lk/s1600/apairasparediyfishtailskirt3.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"img border="0" height="484px" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tzZShDXtYM8/Tn7VPqTGNgI/AAAAAAAAEfM/wwOL9kJ54Lk/s640/apairasparediyfishtailskirt3.png" width="640px" //a/divbr /6. Sew a small stitch all the way around the hem.br /br /div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4bpvjl5LqVU/Tn7VqCGP5_I/AAAAAAAAEfQ/jP4V1ChwFc4/s1600/apairasparediyfishtailskirt4.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"img border="0" height="454px" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-4bpvjl5LqVU/Tn7VqCGP5_I/AAAAAAAAEfQ/jP4V1ChwFc4/s640/apairasparediyfishtailskirt4.png" width="640px" //a/divbr /7. Iron flat again.br /br /div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xgpiagVe_oc/Tn7WTXunj0I/AAAAAAAAEfU/AEALN1oHu2c/s1600/apairasparediyfishtailskirt5.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"img border="0" height="428px" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xgpiagVe_oc/Tn7WTXunj0I/AAAAAAAAEfU/AEALN1oHu2c/s640/apairasparediyfishtailskirt5.png" width="640px" //a/divbr /div style="text-align: center;"Voila! All done. Now wasn't that simple? I absolutely love how this style moves around when you walk! /divdiv class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zfFCRRSh5zo/Tn7WpcnFB9I/AAAAAAAAEfY/QPVUw6CnQDc/s1600/apairasparediyfishtailskirt6.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"img border="0" height="546px" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zfFCRRSh5zo/Tn7WpcnFB9I/AAAAAAAAEfY/QPVUw6CnQDc/s640/apairasparediyfishtailskirt6.png" width="640px" //a/divdiv class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"br //divdiv class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"Now that I've tested the process I am going to make a few different coloured versions.
