Most people who have oily skin think that it’s a healthy sign; it may seem so, but not always! Oily skin tends to have open pores that allow bacteria to build up on skin, which leads to pimples, blackheads and white heads. When you’re unable to clean your pores thoroughly you get those large zits that can almost have a life their own, multiplying, making your face unsightly, and risking scarring once they have healed. Oily skin should be treated with natural moisturizers that are designed specifically for oily skin. They don’t cost very much and there are even homemade remedies that are quite effective in solving this problem. Natural moisturizers are the best way to get started in skin treatment because they are generally very gentle on even the most sensitive skin.

The most popular way to treat oily skin is with homemade facemasks made from light oils (like grape seed, avocado or jojoba oils). Combine them with acids, such as lemon juice and a teaspoon of honey, and you’re good to go! These homemade recipes of natural moisturizers for oily skin can be further fortified by adding vitamins such as vitamin E into your concoction. Mix your ingredients and then apply them to your face and let it rest for about 10 minutes. The acid can lessen the secretion of oils and the honey can help lock in moisture in the pores, giving your face a smoother texture after the mask has been rinsed away.

For those who have oily skin, it is best to choose water-based moisturizers. You do not need to add more oil to your face, and water based moisturizers can add to the much needed deposits of liquid on your pores. Whenever you apply make-up, always thoroughly clean your face to avoid dirt accumulating in your pores because this can result in pimples, and even ugly looking blackheads around your nose and cheeks. Rinse off your make-up with facial soap and water, and then gently apply moisturizer and other skin care products with the tips of your fingers. Avoid using cotton balls as they might scratch or bruise your skin. Always resist the urge to “pop” zits as this can lead to further infection and permanent scars. Apply a warm compress on the surface of pimples to gather the swelling as staphylococcus are heat loving bacteria and getting them concentrated on one spot can minimize the size of the pimple immensely.

For a more comprehensive understanding of your skin condition, it is wise to see a certified dermatologist who can thoroughly look you over and give suitable advice on which skin care products are best for you. They may also suggest a change in diet as some foods, like peanuts and chocolate, are rich in oil. Also avoid drying out your skin by drinking lots of water to rehydrate you. Water is the best natural moisturizer because it doesn’t even cost a tenth of most skin care products.
